At the closing bell front month cattle futures were $0.45 to $1.15 higher. Back month cattle prices were 15 to 22 cents weaker. Feeder cattle ended yesterday $0.97 to $1.72 higher. Jan feeders ended 17 cents in the red. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was $1.04 lighter at $134.45 on 1/14. USDA mentioned very light cash cattle activity at $105 live and $169 carcass in the WCB. Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were higher on Tuesday widening the Chc/Sel spread to $11.05. Choice boxes were up $2.45, to $217.49. Select boxes were 60 cents higher to $206.44. USDA estimated Tuesday’s slaughter at 117,000 head. WTD slaughter was 229k head, compared to 231k LW and 245k LY. Trade ideas are beginning to surface for Friday’s USDA Cattle on Feed report, with total on feed expected to be 99 to 100% of year ago.
